My journey so far… a love of Photography

Although I started to enjoy taking pictures in the 1980s using a Minolta X300 SLR film camera, I didn't pursue photography seriously until many years later and the advent of the digital age.

Happy days! The Minolta X300 35mm SLR camera.

I had a few basic entry-level digital cameras which allowed me the freedom to practice without the constraints of films costs, the bug came right back with a real vengeance. In 2010 I purchased my first DSLR, a Nikon D90.

My first digital SLR camera. The legendary Nikon D90 12.3MP camera - the start of a continuing digital journey for me

The Highlands of Scotland had captured my imagination on my very first visit in the 1980s, where I'd also seen these grand panoramic landscape images for sale that just blew me away, quite simply, I wanted to be able to do that too.

Many hours of endless (but very enjoyable) learning ensued and I discovered a real passion for shooting landscape and architecture which I was able to combine with my love of the outdoors, travel, walking, and exploring remote locations. Although I do enjoy shooting a wide range of subjects it's without a doubt that it' is the Landscape genre I love the most.

A good few years, (and a good few cameras) down the line I've been lucky enough to have my work published in magazines like Amateur Photographer & What Digital Camera including full features and selling my work. I'm a firm believer that you never ever stop learning about photography and I'm always brushing up with tutorials as well as going out shooting as much as possible.

Another chapter began when I started to enter my work into competitions, entering these hadn't been high on my priority list, (mainly because I didn't really know a lot about it), until I was approached to join a local photography club, which I did, they have supported me and helped me grow, also pushing me to enter my images into competitions. This has opened a whole new avenue of opportunity, sharing, and learning about other genres as well as being able to help other members with the genre's I'm most passionate about. Since joining we've won quite a few awards with my landscape images contributing to the success we have had. This went one huge step further for me when I was shortlisted for the Landscape Photographer of the year award in 2018, great news!… and then finding out in October that not only had my image made the yearbook, I had actually won the entire competition - pretty mind-blowing for me on a personal level.

Put simply, Photography for me is an absolute passion, if it wasn’t, I wouldn't do it. It's that simple. If I'm not doing it, you can guarantee I'm thinking about it or doing something connected to it. Photography teaches you to look at the world in a different way and it also allows you to show the world how you see it, through the lens and then share that vision with many others.

Many thanks for your time (it is appreciated), and for stopping by my site.

If you've enjoyed it please take the short time it takes to say so, it really does mean a lot!

In addition, to my own photography projects, I also work with, and I’m a proud UK Ambassador for the following product manufacturers. I actually use their products every time I go out shooting as they provide high-quality robustness and value. If I didn’t believe in them, I wouldn’t use them, or put my name to them.
